Four teams for their first european dream. In Torres Novas the 56th Euroleague Final Four

The Euroleague returns to award the title, now in its 56th edition. A year ago it was Luso who hosted the first and second phases of the event and in this year it will be another portuguese location to host the Final Four, Torres Novas in the centre of Portugal. It returns to host a final phase after 2006, when the Italian Follonica triumphed, in a Final Four played in group mode.
Two portuguese and two Italian teams will compete for the most important trophy of the season, qualified after two rounds of the group phase. where Trissino and Valongo ranked first and Tomar and Sarzana as second. For all, it is the first time in a Euroleague Final Four and one has already tasted two World Skate Europe Cup finals, the Italian Sarzana. The first semi-final (local time 12:00) will be the Portuguese derby between Valongo and Tomar, already played in 1st Divisao where the team of the Porto’s Region won 5-1, while in the return the victory of Tomar for 4-2. They finished sixth and eighth respectively in the standings of “1a Divisao”, divided by only three points. Among the scorers stand out Tomas Moreira for Tomar with 21 goals and Rafael Bessa for Valongo with 17 but both have their strength in the goalkeeper, respectively third (Veludo) and seventh (Mendes) in the special ranking of goals conceded. For Tomar, it is a first-ever in the Euroleague competition, while for Valongo (winner of the Portuguese championship in 2014) there have been two participations in the Euroleague with the maximum result of a Quarter-final (2014) and a semi-final of the CERS Cup (1982 and 1995).
The second semi-final (local time 15:00, 16:00 Central European Summer Time) is an all-Italian derby, an event that has never happened in history. Three matches of the season, a victory for Trissino (5-2) and two victories for Sarzana (6-4 and 4-3 in the Italian Cup). In the standings, Trissino ranked first while Sarzana tenth, divided by 28 points, where the best scorer was Giulio Cocco with 45 goals against the 29 of the spagnish Joan Galbas. Among Zampoli was the best goalkeeper in Serie A1 while Corona is sixth.
For Trissino several participations in the former CERS Cup, with the maximum result of a Quarter-final (1991, 2001 and 2017) and the victory of an Italian Championship in 1978. Sarzana is the recent winner of the Italian Cup about a month ago, the first Italian trophy in its history, and is back from two World Skate Europe Cup finals defeated in both by Lleida but it is since 2014 that he participates continuously in the European cups. The peculiarity of this derby is that the two coaches are two brothers, Alessandro and Mirko Bertolucci, who won the first and only Italian Euroleague with the Follonica’s team in Torres Novas in 2006.
The final will certainly be a challenge Italy against Portugal at 3 pm on Sunday will close this European hockey season, still characterized by the problems of Covid-19.
