The Principality of Andorra will welcome the third act of this reduced 2020-2021 season, the WS Europe Cup’s Final Seven. From Friday to Sunday the seven teams that confirmed their presence at the beginning of the year, will play the 40th trophy after the cancellation last season for the Covid-19 pandemic. It will be an edition characterized by strict protocols but that will have a good audience in the stands given the 30% of spectators allowed for this event by the Government of Andorra. The event will be held at Poliesportiu Andorra, in the middle of a sports centre in the forehead, already home in 2012 of a final phase of the Euroleague. After 9 years, Rink Hockey returns to the parquet usually used by basketball, in an arena that has almost 4500 spectators, with the possibility of having more than 1200 people on the stands. The role of defending champion is the CE Lleida, winner of the last two editions and ready to warm up the summit, already qualified for the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon, against the winner of Calafell-Girona. On Friday, however, three quarter-finals will be played. At 13:00 local time, the catalans of CH Caldes and the Portuguese of Riba D’Ave will start: the first come from the Semi-Final of the “Copa del Rey” played last weekend, beaten only by the Liceo then winner, while Riba was relegated to the second division in the Portuguese championship after the thirteenth place in the national competition. At 16:00 the Italian Sarzana will be on rink against the catalans of Igualada. The Italians come from the best season in their history, fourth place in the standings, but have been stationary for a month and a half, while the opponents have ranked eighth in the Ok liga. The last quarter at 19:00 will be a Catalan derby between Calafell and Girona. They were divided by only one point in the Ok liga standings, eighth and tenth respectively, while Girona were the protagonists of an intense quarter-final against Reus in the “Copa del Rey”, then won by the red-black at overtime.
Saturday at 1pm and 4pm the two semi-finals where Lleida Llista is already qualified as the holder of the trophy: in the league she finished fifth and was defeated in the quarter-finals last Thursday by Caldes 5-4. On Sunday at 12:30 pm the final will be played that will decide the 40th winner.
